Play Store 7.0.18 APK Latest Version and News

Google has been keeping us pretty busy lately releasing tiny, incremental updates every few days or so. The latest version in this string of constant updates is Play Store 7.0.18, which is hot on the heels of 7.0.17 and 7.0.16, both of which feel like they just came out yesterday.

You don’t have to be a tech nerd to look at these Google Play Store version numbers and understand that not a lot is changing here. So for maybe the second time in history, we’re excusing you from updating to this new Play Store version 7.0.18 provided that you already updated to at least version 7.0.16; otherwise, we strongly encourage you to take 30 seconds and get yourself completely up to date.

What’s new in Play Store 7.0.18?

Compared to 7.0.17? Not much, nothing noticeable. Perhaps a line of code was tweaked here and there in an attempt to resolve a bug that was reported. The changes here appear to be unremarkable, and while there could potentially be something interesting that hasn’t gone live yet hiding in the code, no teardowns of Play Store version 7.0.18 APK have been published yet, so it’s still a mystery.

Now, if you are currently using version 7.0.12 or lower, then yes, we do recommend that you download the Play Store 7.0.18 APK file here and sideload it so that your Android device will be more up to date. Which isn’t to say that the changes between 7.0.12 and 7.0.18 are huge, either; however, some interesting Google Play Store news was released between these versions, so it is worth the effort of updating just in case these new features require a very recent version of the app to work.

Recent changes to Google Play Store

We’ve already discussed the new feature which appears to be in beta testing at the moment, known as “Top Features”. We assume it’s in beta because there was never any official statement about it from Google, and it hasn’t made its way onto most Android devices yet.

However, it does appear to be expanding, because additional users are reporting gaining access to it on a regular basis. It’s a pretty cool idea, so hopefully it will work out and get to stay as an official Play Store feature: basically it gives users concise, specific information about what an app does well (and what it doesn’t do well) right from the search results.

Let’s say you’re in the Play Store looking for a new app to manage your budget and finances, and tracking credit card spending is a must-have option for you – no credit card tracking would be a deal breaker. Before “Top Features”, you probably would have had to install the app and try it out to see if it actually met your needs, but now, when people leave a review for the app in the Google Play Store, they will be asked to rate “thumbs up” or “thumbs down” a few key features in the app.

So, because it isn’t an official feature (yet?), there’s no guarantee that updating to Play Store 7.0.18 will get you access to it, but it certainly can’t hurt to try.

Other interesting news was targeted specifically at Android users in India, who are being given two wonderful gifts from the Google developers: a data saving feature intended to take full advantage of Wi-Fi when it’s strong to download static pages, so that if the connection is suddenly lost, they don’t have to be downloaded using expensive mobile data; and finally, Indian users have access to Google Play Music!
